TransistorWP connects your
Transistor.fm account to your WordPress site so you can add podcast players, subscribe links, episode descriptions, and transcripts with WordPress blocks.
This guide walks through the first few steps: downloading the plugin, installing it in WordPress, activating your license, connecting your Transistor.fm account, choosing a default show, and knowing where to go next.
Before you begin
You will need:
- A WordPress site where you can install plugins
- A TransistorWP license key
- A Transistor.fm account
- Your Transistor.fm API key
TransistorWP is built for the WordPress block editor. If your site uses the Classic Editor, you will need to edit the page or post with the block editor in order to insert and configure TransistorWP blocks.
Downloading the plugin
After purchasing TransistorWP, head over to your
account page on TransistorWP.com. You should see your recent purchase there.
Click
View Order Details on the order. In the products section, you will see a link to download the plugin
.zip file.
Download that
.zip file and keep it handy. You will upload it to WordPress in the next step.
Installation
After downloading the TransistorWP plugin, install it on your WordPress site.
In your WordPress dashboard:
- Go to Plugins > Add New.
- Click Upload Plugin.
- Select the TransistorWP
.zip file.
- Click Install Now.
- Once the plugin is installed, click Activate Plugin.
Once TransistorWP is activated, you should see a new
TransistorWP menu item in the WordPress admin sidebar.
Activation
The first thing you will want to do after activating the plugin is add your TransistorWP license key (you'll find that in your
account as well).
In WordPress:
- Go to TransistorWP > License.
- Add your TransistorWP license key.
- Save the license key.
- While still on the License page, click Activate Site.
Activating your site makes sure you receive plugin updates as they are released. It also enables TransistorWP's settings and blocks.
If the license is missing, invalid, expired, or not activated for the current site, TransistorWP may show a notice in the WordPress admin.
Connect your Transistor.fm account
After your license is active, the next step is to connect TransistorWP to Transistor.fm.
Once TransistorWP is installed and activated, you should see a new
TransistorWP menu item in your WordPress admin dashboard. There are two pages there:
- License - where you add your TransistorWP license key and activate the site.
- Settings - where you connect TransistorWP to your Transistor.fm account and choose plugin defaults.
Go to
TransistorWP > Settings to finish connecting the plugin.
TransistorWP settings
The TransistorWP settings page includes the settings that control how TransistorWP connects to Transistor.fm and which show should be selected by default when you add blocks.
Transistor API Key
This is the API key from
your Transistor.fm account. You can find it near the bottom of your Transistor.fm account page.
Without this API key, TransistorWP cannot connect to Transistor.fm or load the show and episode details needed for the plugin to work.
After copying the API key from Transistor.fm:
- Go to TransistorWP > Settings in WordPress.
- Paste the key into the Transistor API Key field.
- Click Save Settings.
Default Show
TransistorWP supports Transistor.fm accounts with more than one show.
If you have multiple shows, the
Default Show setting lets you choose which show should be preselected when you insert new TransistorWP blocks.
This is just a convenience setting. You can still choose a different show inside each block when needed.
After adding your API key and choosing a default show, click
Save Settings.
