The
TransistorWP Latest Episode Embed block displays the newest episode from a selected Transistor.fm show.
This is a handy block for any page where you want the episode player to stay fresh without manually editing WordPress every time you publish a new episode.
What the block does
The Latest Episode Embed block shows the most recent episode player for the show you select.
When you publish a new episode in Transistor.fm, the player updates automatically because it uses Transistor.fm's latest episode embed for that show.
In TransistorWP, you choose:
- Which show to display
- Whether to use the light or dark player style
You do not choose an individual episode in this block. If you need to display a specific episode, use the Single Episode Embed block instead.
Before you begin
Before using this block, make sure TransistorWP is installed, licensed, and connected to your Transistor.fm account. If you have not done that yet, start with
Getting Started with TransistorWP.
If the selected show does not have published episodes, the latest episode player may not have anything to display yet.
Add the Latest Episode Embed block
In WordPress:
- Open the page or post where you want the latest episode to appear.
- Click the block inserter.
- Search for TransistorWP or podcast.
- Select TransistorWP Latest Episode Embed.
The block will load your available Transistor.fm shows.
Select a show
Use the
Select a Show dropdown to choose the podcast show you want to display.
If you set a default show in
TransistorWP > Settings, that show may already be selected when you insert the block.
You can use the Latest Episode Embed block more than once on the same site. For example, if you manage multiple shows, you could add one block for each show on a podcast network page.
Choose light or dark player style
Use the
Light Embed toggle to choose the player style.
- Turn Light Embed on for the standard light player.
- Turn Light Embed off for the dark player.
Choose the style that works best with the page where the player will appear.
Save and preview the page
After selecting your show and player style:
- Save or update the page.
- View the page on the front end.
- Confirm that the latest episode player appears.
The front-end player is loaded from Transistor.fm using the selected show's slug. When Transistor.fm knows there is a newer published episode for that show, the player will show the newer episode automatically.
Good places to use this block
The Latest Episode Embed block works especially well on:
- Your homepage
- A podcast landing page
- A sidebar or reusable block area
- A "Listen to the latest episode" section
- A page for a speaker, host, or brand where the newest episode should always be featured
This block is meant for set-it-and-forget-it podcast placement. Add it once, then keep publishing in Transistor.fm.
When not to use this block
Do not use the Latest Episode Embed block if you need a page to keep showing the same episode forever.
For example, if you are writing a blog post about a specific interview, use the Single Episode Embed block instead. Otherwise, the page will eventually show a newer episode that no longer matches the article.
Troubleshooting
The wrong show is selected
Open the block settings and choose the correct show from the
Select a Show dropdown.
If the wrong show keeps being selected when you add new blocks, update your default show in
TransistorWP > Settings.
The player is not showing
Check that:
- Your TransistorWP license is active
- Your Transistor.fm API key is saved
- The selected show exists in your Transistor.fm account
- The selected show has at least one published episode
If you recently changed settings or published an episode, refresh the page and try again.
The newest episode is not showing yet
If you just published a new episode in Transistor.fm, give the embed a little time and refresh the page.
The Latest Episode Embed block uses Transistor.fm's latest episode player, so the update depends on Transistor.fm recognizing the newest published episode.
I want to show the episode description or transcript
The Latest Episode Embed block only controls the latest episode player.
If you want to display an episode description or transcript in WordPress, use the Single Episode Embed block and choose a specific episode.
